Do You Want to Ride or Drive?

Today at Homeschool coop, the students were asked to write an essay using a impromptu statement. As I was thinking about their assignment, I thought about an impromptu question that I would sure like to know in this season: How to determine the mind of God. For there are times when you can feel the oneness with the Spirit of God and you feel as if your life is on track. You can keep going forward for you feel as if you are walking with God and everything is going to be alright. There are other times when you feel as if you are on a desert, alone, without water and food, trying to find the pathway out.

The Word of God says:

Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful! God, I’ll never comprehend them! I couldn’t even begin to count them— any more than I could count the sand of the sea. Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!  Psalm 139:17 (MSG)

The Psalmist has determined that he will never comprehend the thoughts of God, nor even count the number of them, for they are as the sand of the sea. Yet, he states something that is something we can grab ahold to: “let me rise in the morning and live always with you”. It becomes clear then that we don’t have to know the thoughts of God, that we don’t have to understand all of HIs ways, all we have to do is to begin our day by living with Him, walking with Him throughout the day and resting with Him at night. This takes away all the struggle. We can relax and enjoy the journey, not worry about the particulars.

What if we all really live like this? What if we really rose early every morning beseeching the presence of the Lord, not questioning what He is trying to do in our lives, just trusting Him to do it? And then as we go throughout our day, have confidence that every step will be purposeful – not according to our purpose, but according to His?

I like the sound of this, I want to yield to God’s plan, not my own. I want to ride through this life as a passenger, and not the driver. Lord, help me to let it be so.
