Oh How Sweet It Is!

This week I have been experiencing some unusual health challenges and wasn’t I glad to get this message today from a friend:

“Just like a good recipe, I think a good word is good to pass on as well.”

My friend Annie Ruth knows just what to say to lift my spirits! And of course it reminded me of one of my favorite scriptures:

2A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! Proverbs 15:23 (KJV)

Oh yes, what a blessing it is to give and to receive a word spoken in due season! It not only lifts our spirits it helps to ease our aches and pains.

The ability to speak a word of encouragement however, is available to us every day. We don’t even have to wait on a particular season. We can said Good Morning to a stranger, giving them the blessing of speaking a “good” morning to them. We can say “Be Blessed” to the person at the register as they finish ringing our order. That is in essence putting a pronouncement of blessing upon them. There are hundreds of ways we can go about speaking a blessing to others. And you never know when that word will lift someone out of a despair of hopelessness.

I heard a story the other day about a head of a company who decided to go through the office and speak words of encouragement to all of his employees. This was not his usual behavior. The next day he received an email from one of those employees who thanked him for the encouraging word. He further went on to say,

“I had decided that no one cared about anything that no one cared about me and nothing that I did counted for anything; I had decided to go home and kill myself. When you gave that word to me, it caused me to have hope.”

I have been quickened today to purpose in my heart to spread more blessings, to pour out the love of God that He so lavishly pours upon me. And if you haven’t heard it from someone today, let me tell you that you have a God who loves you with an everlasting love, a God of mercy and grace, a God who longs to fill your life with good things. Just ask Him, He’ll tell you so Himself!
