What Your Enemies Don’t Know!

No matter what your personality type, it’s not hard to get an enemy today. Contention abounds everywhere! What good news it is to read this in the scripture:

22 But if you will indeed listen to and truly obey His voice and do everything that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. Numbers 23:22 (AMP)

This bit of good news was given to the Israelite sojourners as they traveled through the wilderness on the way to the promise land. How good it is that we can appropriate this promise as well. The condition is still the same, and likewise the promise.

Obedience is something that becomes easier, rather than harder as we grow in the Lord. The first reason of course is because we learn that it is not expedient to disobey, it always has consequences. The second reason however is because we begin to want to please the Lord of the commandments. Just like anyone we love, the more we love them, the more we want to please them.

When we get the obedience right, it does not mean that everything will go as we desire. There will be hills to climb, and on the journey there will be those who do not perceive you as their friend. What they don’t know is when they try to advance against you in any way, that you have a God walking along with you who will be your defense – be they enemy or adversary.

This knowledge is as comforting as sitting in front of a fire on a cold winter day. It takes away the fear of venturing forth through unknown terrain. Be encouraged – the God of the Israelites is alive and well and looking out for you!
