Hope – Day 5
There is one scripture passage that sums up what hope means to me:
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Ephesians 1:17-19 (KJV)
When all is said and done, what we want most in this life is to know that we have fulfilled our purpose on this earth. That our living was not in vain. That we fulfilled the calling of being a good person, a good parent, a faithful friend, a successful laborer in whatever vocation to which we are called. We will not be able to do any of this without God opening our eyes so that we know “the hope of his calling” in those areas. When He, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives that is His role. For He is the “spirit of wisdom and revelation” of the Triune God. He is the One who reveals to us the “exceeding greatness of his power” to enable us to sojourn through our life’s journey.
When our eyes become open, things are no longer impossible. We see the way. We listen for His voice leading us and guiding us along the way. We are not afraid of losing who we thought we were, so that we can walk into who we really are. It’s not hard to walk in humility trusting God to pave our way. The fears that used to torment us begin to fade away. We have hope that the same God who brought us through yesterday, will do so today, and even more.
What happens is we begin to live this life as it is supposed to be lived. Treasuring each day as an open slate that God will imprint with HIs will. We will find glorious surprises as He navigates us through what looks to be a difficult terrain.
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord…
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
