Love Poured Out…

This is the last week of advent, and our focus this week is on love. Love is such a powerful emotion and it seems to come naturally when we are young. As we grow older it seems to grow more difficult. Walls of mistrust and envy and anger and bitterness build up around our heart to try to keep love out. Yet, the scripture says:

Those who are loved by God, let his love continually pour from you to one another, because God is love. 1 John 4:7 (The Passion Translation)

Because God is love, if we have received God in our hearts through the finished work of Jesus Christ then no matter how old we are it should not be difficult to love, for we are just a vessel, a pitcher that pours the love inside of us out to others.

What makes it difficult is when we try to filter love through our minds rather than letting it flow from our heart. When we use the filter of our mind it may remind us of something someone did to us, or even feel as if that person is not deserving of love because of who they are or how they act. The problem with that is when you don’t allow that love to flow freely, and withhold it, it can create a blockage making it difficult to freely love anyone, or be loved.

A better way to live is to let God do the loving, and let Him do the judging. This will take the pressure of having to determine who is worthy of love – if they are a believer than God has commanded us to love them – period. Remember the keeper of your heart and let love pour…
