Back in the Saddle…

I have been on a little hiatus from writing my posts. The reasons are not as important as the wake-up call that I received from heaven that it was time to get back in the saddle!

Much has happened since the last time I posted, but what is on my heart today is a familiar scripture that continues to play out in my life:

7Those who are loved by God, let his love continually pour from you to one another, because God is love. Everyone who loves is fathered by God and experiences an intimate knowledge of him. 8The one who doesn’t love has yet to know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8 (TPT)

There are times in our lives when we can accept just a cursory love – because we feel as if things are going well, and so what if this or that person isn’t into us. There are other times when estrangement creeps in and we wish we really knew that there were people in our lives that really care about us, more than that really love us. One thing I’ve learned about life is that try as you might, you can never really prepare for whatever season you are in, because seasons change without warning.

One thing that has always amazed me is that without really looking for it, or expecting it, when I needed a friend there was always one on the scene. On Saturday night I fell and injured myself, I knew I had to go the hospital, but I was bleeding and knew it would not be wise to drive. I called a couple of my children and they did not answer – it was after all 3:30 in the morning. Then the Holy Spirit dropped the name of a neighbor in my spirit and I called her- and she answered. I told her what happened and in ten minutes she was at my door, took me to the hospital, and stayed with me until family arrived.

I couldn’t help but think of the love of God that will flow through a person at the least opportune times to bring assistance to someone else. Not only that my neighbors who were in my building were very concerned and helped my daughter when she came to pick up clothes for me. Not only that I had a host of believers who prayed for me – and thankfully the injuries were minimal.

I love 1 John 4:7 and 8, and I also love the lyrics to a hymn which lets us know where love originates:

The Love of God

…Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Refrain

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Bask in His love today.
