At Times Like These…
There are times when there are so many things going on in our lives that we are overwhelmed. We strive to keep things in order, we strive to be true to our word, we strive to be timely – yet… At those times, there is one Psalm that I have often cried out:
From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].
For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me,
A strong tower against the enemy. Psalm 61:2-3 (AMP)
Calling to mind the many times when frustration came upon me because things weren’t going as I planned, I do it again. I call to the One who can take me to a “rock that is higher than I”; a rock that I cannot get to without His help. My memory reminds me that He has always been a shelter and a refuge for me; that He has always come up against my enemies.
Knowing that I do not have to solve my troubles is a comfort all within itself. Yet also knowing that in the process of bringing me to a place of safety, He is also bringing me up to another place in Him. For each time my “test” becomes a “testimony” – my faith is increased and my assurance that I need not fear what man can do is strengthened. And I have a greater resolve to live for Him, not wanting to go my own way, but seeking Him for HIs way.
I am reminded of David when he returned to his camp at Ziklag and found that his and all of his armies wives and possessions had been taken away. Despite the threat of death to David, David sought the Lord and in so doing was assured that he should go to take back the wives and possessions for he would recover all. It is so comforting to read this account:
So David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and rescued his two wives. 19 Nothing of theirs was missing whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken; David recovered it all. 1 Samuel 30:18-19 (AMP)
Like David, if we seek the Lord we will always see a victory!
