Is There a Remedy?

This scripture stood out to me today:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)

If we are honest with ourselves, a lot of times we are downright selfish. We want what we want when we want it! And if we really get real, we also will find that sometimes in our heart we don’t wish the best for everyone. Yes, we have our picks who we will defend to the death. But then there are those others, on the other side who we wish would somehow be sent to utter darkness.

This is a description of a heart that does not have a Savior living in it. God knew our heart and that all of us have the potential to be a Cain. God, being the loving God He is, did not leave us without a remedy:

“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. Ezekiel 36: 25-27 (NLT)

This is the remedy – the promise from the Father – made available to us, by way of the Holy Spirit. God knows what is in our heart, the big sins committed by some, and the little sins committed by others. He wants us to be free of the evil things that come out of a stony heart, by giving us a heart of flesh, tender and responsive to the things of God. How does it happen? All we have to do is ask! Jesus is standing at the door waiting to come in.
