Recess Is Over!
Although I made a commitment to write a new post everyday, Monday through Friday, I confess – yesterday I didn’t! I took the whole day off in mindless activity – because next week I start full steam ahead with the regularly scheduled program. No longer will I be adjusting my days to whatever I want, recess is over and it’s time to get back to work! After many years of being subject to the schedules of others, whether that of my babies, or that of an employer, I relish the days when I can determine what it is I want to do.
The only problem when making our own schedule is in regards the oil. If I choose to waste away my days and spend little or no time in the Word, will there be oil in my lamp when Jesus comes?
“Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaidsa] who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep...
10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’
12 “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’
13 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return. Matthew 25:1-5, 10-13 (NLT)
This parable concerning the ten virgins is applicable to us today. While we all may one day slumber as we await the bridegroom, it is up to us to be filled to overflowing with the oil. Staying prayed up, fed up with the Word of God, and in daily communication with the Father through prayer, That way, in case we’re napping when He comes, or when life’s trials hit us, at least we’ll have enough oil. There is no recess in seeking God for daily instructions, for there is an enemy who prowls about like a roaring lion. Only God has the GPS to keep us free from his attacks.
