Who WILL See God?

Every day funerals take place and preachers of all denominations and faiths give a send-off for the deceased to go to heaven. While this is what everyone wants and is certainly comforting for the grieving family, is that really true?

Of course, it is widely stated that we will all be surprised by who makes it in. However, if we go to the Book of books, right in the red, it says who will make it:

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8)

WOW! This is a tall order, especially when there is another scripture which says:

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT)

The good news is that this was written before Christ came, before He paid the ultimate price of giving His life for our sins, and before He sent the Holy Spirit to come and live within our heart. It is exactly this provision that assures us that we can have a pure heart not because we are automatically pure, but because if we ask Jesus to come and live within us and yield our body and soul to Him, then it is His purity that lives in our heart.

I don’t know about you, but this is good news. Living out our life in purity and righteousness does not depend upon us, it is the work of the Holy Spirit, who longs to set us free from the wickedness of the enemy. There’s an old gospel song that goes, “Won’t He make you clean – inside!” Having been clean, we are on good ground for C.S. Lewis said, “It is safe to tell the pure in heart that they will see God, for only the pure in heart want to!

A Selah Moment,

Maria
