Who Are You Listening To?

The question constantly begs an answer – what does it mean to have life in Christ. Here is a simple answer:

Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer captive to sin’s demands! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did! Romans 6:16 (MSG)

I love this passage. It is a comprehensive answer to the question of what it means to have life in Christ. The part of this passage that really speaks to me is: “when Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us”! Don’t you love it? Just when you think there’s no way out – here it is – God Himself coming down to us so we can enjoy life with Him. We finally hear a language we can understand and we can rid ourselves of the confusing language that sin keeps speaking in our ear.

To think that by one man – all the sin of the world has the opportunity to end. To think that each of us could walk in a glorious liberty and freedom – if we are just willing to say “Yes”! Yes to His will, Yes to His way, Yes to HIs Word! With all the complications that sin brings – it would seem like this would be an offer no one would refuse. Yet we find that there are multitudes who have yet to respond to the joyful sound!

It”s time to put the lights on, listen to the mother tongue, and walk in the newness of a life set free!
